Antonios Karanasos is an interventional cardiologist - intensivist, and he works as an Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine - Interventional Cardiology at the University of Patras.
He graduated from the Medical School of UoA in 2005, and completed his doctoral dissertation in interventional imaging in 2012 at the 1st Department of Cardiology of UoA. He has worked at the Thoraxcenter, Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam for 4 years. During his employment there, he completed his second doctoral dissertation (PhD thesis) in the field of interventional imaging (Erasmus University Rotterdam, 2016). He has obtained a specialty in cardiology from the 1st Department of Cardiology of UoA at Hippokrateion General Hospital, while he has certification in interventional cardiology from the EAPCI, and recognized specialization in intensive care. Also, he has been trained in complex angioplasties and in the catheter treatment of structural heart diseases at 1st Department of Cardiology of UoA, Hippokrateio General Hospital.
His clinical work includes the clinical supervision of critically ill patients, and the performance of transcatheter interventions in the hemodynamic laboratory, including coronary angiographies, coronary angioplasties (PCI), transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) and patent foramen ovale (PFO) closure.
He has participated in various research programs in Greece and abroad, with his main research interest focusing on interventional imaging, especially by optical coherence tomography (OCT). He has (co-)authored more than 100 publications on Pubmed, as well as numerous chapters in Greek and international textbooks.
