I am Associate Professor of Hematology/ Bone Marrow Transplantation in Medical School of University of Patras/ Greece and Clinical Program Director of the Bone Marrow Transplantation and Leukemia Program at Patras University Hospital. I am German Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology and Oncology. I have been working in the field of medical oncology and hematology for ten years in Germany and for the past seven years in Greece. After completing my medical studies in Greece, I moved (1995-2005) to the Dept. of Hematology/Oncology of Freiburg University / Germany (Dir. Prof. R. Mertelsmann), where I completed my PhD Thesis on hematopoietic stem cell biology and engineering, my internal medicine training, my hematology and oncology training and a specialist training in Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation (HSCT). I have been given the Venia Legendi (Assistant Professorship) of the University of Freiburg in 2004. In 2006, I was appointed Assistant Professor at the University of Patras / Greece where I established from the scratch a fully accredited Allogeneic Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation Program  (EBMT CIC Team 281), which now performs all types of transplants (related, unrelated, haploidentical). Some of the clinical activity of the BMT Unit is presented in BMT 46:1363-8; 2011 and BBMT 19:75-81; 2013. I also established the BMT Laboratory supporting the clinical program and the BMT Research Group with focus on GvHD pathogenesis, leukemic stem cell biology and transplant immunology. In 2012, I spent a research sabbatical at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Washington DC, working with Prof. J. Barrett on the clinical establishment of multivirus specific T cells as adoptive cell therapy after transplantation. I recently founded the non-profit, non-governmental “Centre to Advance Public Awareness and Recruitment of Bone Marrow Donor Volunteers University of Patras (CBMDP)” which is registered in Bone Marrow Donors Worldwide (BMDW).  I am Board Member of the Hellenic Society of Haematology (HSH), Advisory Board Member of the BMT Committee of the Hellenic National Transplant Organization and have been Vice President of the BMT Scientific Group of the HSH. I am Founding Advisory Board Member of the “Centre of the Study of Haematological Malignancies” in Cyprous, Mentor at the H-Net Masterclass of the European Hematology Association (EHA) and Inspector of the Joint Accreditation Committee-ISCT (Europe) & EBMT, a non-profit body for the purposes of assessment and accreditation in the field of HSCT. I am editorial board member of 7 international journals and act as expert reviewer for more than 20 international journals and research funding bodies. I have over 2 million Euros in research grants from multiple sources, including the EU Council. I have more than 50 peer-reviewed original publications, 19 book chapters in international books and over 120 published conference abstracts. I am editor of one international book on bone marrow transplantation. I have received 9 national and 9 international awards, including three main prizes from the EBMT.
