Summary of Curriculum Vitae
Panos Alexopoulos was born in Patras, Greece. After graduating from the Experimental School of the University of Patras he attended lectures at the Faculty of Biology of the University of Patras and then studied medicine at the same university. He has worked as psychiatric resident at the German university hospitals of Rostock and Erlangen, as well as at the hospital of the Technical University of Munich (TUM). He obtained his PhD and completed his «Habilitation» (German postdoctoral degree program) at the TUM. In February 2013 he was appointed director of the neurobiological laboratory of the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy of TUM, at which he has also worked as consultant psychiatrist. Since April 2015 he practices medicine as psychiatrist and psychotherapist at the University Hospital of Patras, while he serves as adjunct Professor at TUM. Dr. Alexopoulos currently runs the university old age psychiatry outpatient clinic in Patras and coordinates the network of INTegRated InterveNtion of pSychogerIatric Care (INTRINSIC) services in the Region of Western Greece, as well as the conciliar and liaison services of the Patras dementia day care centre. In the academic year 2022-23, he served as visiting professor at the Global Brain Health Institute / Trinity College Dublin in Ireland within the frames of a sabbatical leave. Panos has been awarded an Adjunct Associate Professor Title in the School of Medicine, Trinity College Dublin, and he is a member of the network of the Global Brain Health Institute (https://www.gbhi.org/profiles/panos-alexopoulos). His research focus encompasses early diagnosis and markers of Alzheimer’s disease and neurodegeneration with Lewy-bodies, geriatric depression, brain health, as well as issues of philosophy and mental health, a field in which he has obtained a MA degree from the University of Central Lancashire in Preston, United Kingdom. He is the author and co-author of more than 100 publications in peer review journals.

Dr. Alexopoulos has given lectures in the Master's programmes of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens "Physiology of Ageing and Geriatric Syndromes" and "Liaison Psychiatry- Integrated Somatic and Mental Health Care". In addition he has presented clinically relevant and timely topics related to psychogeriatrics in the Grand Rounds of the Department of Psychiatry of the Patras University Hospital, of the Department of Psychiatry of the Eginition Hospital, of the Department of Neurology of the Aldo Moro University of Bari. Morever, he has given lectures in postgraduate didactic courses organised by the Greek Psychogeriatric Association and the Psychogeriatrics Section of the Greek Psychiatric Association.
