Postgraduate Course in “Public Health”

Scope

​The postgraduate program in Public Health (PH) was initiated in 2014.
Two directions have been implemented in the Program. The first is dealing mainly with the Environment effects on Public Health, while the other is concerned with aspects of Social Medicine and Public Health.
The Course leads to the Master’s of Science (M.Sc.)

The course is organized into 3 academic terms:

FIRST TERM: Introduction to Environmental Health, Introduction in Health - Education Health - Social Medicine, Introduction to Biostatistics, Introduction to Epidemiology, Research Methodology, Biostatistics - Medical Statistics, Analytical Epidemiology, Health Law, Bioethics, Research Methodology

SECOND TERM:
Direction I Environment : Environmental Chemistry, Environmental Microbiology, Practical Work I , Health and Safety in Labour, Food Hygiene, Zoonoses/Emerging Infectious and Tropical Diseases , Hospital-acquired Infections , New Technologies in Environmental Health

Direction II Preventive and Social Medicine: Health promotion, Population, Social and Preventive Medicine, Health Systems Organization, Health Policies, Practical Work II, Methodology Research, New Technologies and Social Medicine, Bioethics, Health Economics

THIRD TERM:
Dissertation

Lessons of Term 1 and Term 2 are compulsory and optional and correspond to 80 credits. Postgraduate students are expected to collect at least 60 credits from the entire course of lessons. The Master's thesis (compulsory) corresponds to 30 credits. A minimum total of 90 credits is required for graduation.

Candidate students

Accepted for registration at MP are selected graduates from Departments of  Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing, Veterinary Medicine, Biology, Chemistry, Agronomy, Environmental Engineering, Health Economics, Law and related Departments of Greek Universities and Technical Institutions or Departments of congener non-Greek Institutions, according to Greek legislation for recognition of studies.

Duration of Studies in MP

Studies towards MSc in MP are set to have a minimum duration of 3 academic semesters and a maximum of 6 semesters.
