Ο Δρ. Μιχαήλ Παπαφακλής (MD, PhD, FESC) είναι Επεμβατικός Καρδιολόγος και εργάζεται ως Επίκουρος Καθηγητής Παθολογίας – Επεμβατικής Καρδιολογίας στo Ιατρικό Τμήμα του Πανεπιστημίου Πατρών και το Πανεπιστημιακό Νοσοκομείο Πατρών.

Έλαβε πτυχίο ιατρικής καθώς και διδακτορικό δίπλωμα από την Ιατρική Σχολή του Πανεπιστημίου Ιωαννίνων. Ειδικεύτηκε στην Καρδιολογία στο Πανεπιστημιακό Νοσοκομείο Ιωαννίνων. Έχει εξειδικευθεί στην Επεμβατική Καρδιολογία στο Barts Heart Centre, St Bartholomew's Hospital στο Λονδίνο (Ην.Βασίλειο) και είναι πλήρως πιστοποιημένος στην Επεμβατική Καρδιολογία από την Ευρωπαϊκή Καρδιολογική Εταιρεία (ESC: European Association of Percutaneous Coronary Intervention - EAPCI) και το Υπουργείο Υγείας της Ελληνικής Δημοκρατίας (τίτλος επίσημης εξειδίκευσης).
Η κύρια κλινική του εξειδίκευση περιλαμβάνει την αγγειοπλαστική/στεφανιαία παρέμβαση σε σύμπλοκα περιστατικά υψηλού κινδύνου (CHIP-PCI), τον έλεγχο της στεφανιαίας φυσιολογίας (επικαρδιακά αγγεία [FFR, iFR, RFR, DFR] και μικροκυκλοφορία [CFR, IMR, έλεγχος αγγειόσπασμου]), την ενδοστεφανιαία απεικόνιση (ενδαγγειακή υπερηχογραφία [IVUS/IVUS HD] & οπτική συνεκτική τομογραφία [OCT]) καθώς και την διαδερμική αντικατάσταση της αορτικής βαλβίδας (TAVI).

O Δρ. Παπαφακλής έχει εργαστεί ως Μετα-Διδακτορικός Ερευνητικός Συνεργάτης (Post-Doctoral Research Fellow) στο Brigham and Women's Hospital, Ιατρική Σχολή Harvard και στο Massachusetts Institute of Technology στην Βοστώνη (ΗΠΑ). Στο παρελθόν, ήταν επίσης επισκέπτης ερευνητής στο Τμήμα Επεμβατικής Καρδιολογίας του Thoraxcenter, Ιατρικό Κέντρο Erasmus στην Ολλανδία.

Ο Δρ. Παπαφακλής είναι συγγραφέας σε περισσότερες από 110 επιστημονικές δημοσιεύσεις με κριτές (βιβλιογραφικές αναφορές >4500), και έχει παρουσιάσει πολλαπλές ανακοινώσεις (>100) σε διεθνή καρδιολογικά συνέδρια. Έχει λάβει επίσης το διακεκριμένο βραβείο Young Investigator Award από την Ευρωπαϊκή Εταιρεία Καρδιολογίας (2011), καθώς και βραβεία πρωτότυπης έρευνας από την Ακαδημία Αθηνών (2013) και την Ελληνική Καρδιολογική Εταιρεία (2014).
