Summary of Curriculum Vitae
Mr George Michail MD PhD received his Medical Degree from the Medical School of the Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece. He trained in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of the Patras University Hospital, Greece, receiving the Obstetrician-Gynecologist title in 2005. In 2006, he started his Subspecialty Training in Dublin, Ireland, as Clinical Research Fellow in the Obs/Gynae Department of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and trained in Colposcopy close to Professor Walter Prendiville (LLETZ procedure inventor), he was then accredited with the British Society of Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (B.S.C.C.P.) Diagnosis & Treatment Diploma following exams. Later, in 2007 he presented his PhD Thesis at Patras University Medical School. Qualified as a B.S.C.C.P. Trainer in Colposcopy since 2015, he has successfully submitted audit for several re-accreditation rounds, while also attending numerous B.S.C.C.P. “Training the Trainers” seminars. Since 2010 he has established and operated as the lead colposcopist and surgeon the Dysplasia/Colposcopy Outpatient Clinic in Patras University Hospital, a division servicing numerous patient referrals from Southwestern Greece.
His current placement is within the Academic staff of Patras University Medical School Obstetrics and Gynecology Department (2013, Senior Lecturer - 2020, Assistant Professor - 2024, Associate Professor), while also serving as Consultant Obstetrician/Gynecologist in the Obs/Gyne ward of Patras University Hospital, Rion, Greece. He has co-supervised to completion several PhD and MSc candidates.
His expertise focusses on Cervical Pathology, HPV vaccination, cervical cancer screening & prevention, cervical cancer elimination strategies, self-sampling approaches for cervical screening, HPV latency and gynecologic oncology.
With a commitment to promoting HPV vaccination implementation and cervical cancer screening in Greece, he has participated in several expert scientific committees and educational webinars, besides delivering numerous invited related lectures in keynote national Congresses and venues since 2013. Being an active member of the Greek colposcopic society, he has contributed to the development of numerous national and multinational collaborative scientific protocols in HPV related disease, HPV vaccination, self-sampling approaches for cervical screening. He has also served for several years as an elected member of the Executive Board of the Hellenic Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (H.S.C.C.P.).
