Summary of Curriculum Vitae

Dr Ellul graduated form School (1980) in the city of Patras, Greece. He obtained his medical degree (1987) in the University of Parma, Italy. Whilst working in hospitals in United Kingdom, he completed his Specialization in Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology (1991) in the University of Parma, Italy. He became Doctor of Medicine (1996), University of Liverpool, UK. He obtained the specializations in General Medicine (2001) and Neurology (2007) in Greece.

Since October 2008, Dr Ellul is Assistant Professor in Neurology and Cerebrovascular diseases in the Department of Neurology of the University of Patras, Greece. During the period from October 2001 to October 2008 he was Lecturer in Neurology and Cerebrovascular diseases in the same post. Previous posts for the period from 1989 to 1998 include work at Leighton Hospital, Crewe (UK), Sefton General Hospital, Liverpool (UK), Royal Liverpool University Hospital, UK, Newcastle General Hospital (UK) and Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Gateshead (UK).

Dr Ellul has a special research interest in Parkinson’s disease and Cerebrovascular diseases. More specifically, epidemiology, etiopathogenesis, inflammation in acute stage, functional outcome, cognitive decline and prevention of stroke are within his research fields. Research projects regarding deep brain stimulation in patients with movement disorders have been carried out during the last few years, coinciding with the opening of the neurosurgical department of functional surgery in the University Hospital of Patras. Overall, over 50 papers have been published and cited in Medline and numerous participations in local and international conferences. Dr Ellul has participated in international multicentre randomized control studies such as IST, PROGRESS, PROFESS , PERFORM και ENOS.  Dr Ellul has also initiated and participated in the “semantic web interface project”, which was fully financed by a European Union grant.

Dr Ellul is currently a member of the Hellenic Neurology Society, President of the Geriatric and Gerontology Association of N.W. Greece, and ex-vice President of the Hellenic Stroke Society
