Summary of Curriculum Vitae

Eleni Sazakli was elected to the rank of Assistant Professor in 2025 at the Laboratory of Public Health, Epidemiology and Quality of Life, with a field of expertise in Hygiene – Environmental Hygiene. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and a Master’s degree in Environmental Analysis from the Department of Chemistry, University of Patras. She completed her PhD at the Department of Medicine, University of Patras (awarded in 2005). She continued her training in Biostatistics and Epidemiology, successfully completing the PH207x: Health in Numbers: Quantitative Methods in Clinical & Public Health Research (HarvardX) program, as well as the 26th Residential Summer Course – European Educational Program in Epidemiology, in Florence, Italy. She received 16 months of postdoctoral training in Environmental Epidemiology at the Centre for Research in Environmental Epidemiology (CREAL) in Barcelona.

She has more than ten years of teaching experience in undergraduate and postgraduate courses related to public health and environmental epidemiology, serving as an Adjunct Lecturer and Academic Fellow. To date, she has supervised 34 postgraduate (Master’s level) theses.

Her research interests focus on the assessment of environmental quality through environmental measurements, modeling, and determination of biomarkers of exposure, as well as on the assessment of health risks to the population arising from exposure to pollutants and infectious agents (Health Risk Assessment). In addition, she is involved in the design and implementation of environmental epidemiological studies.

She has published 40 articles in peer-reviewed international scientific journals, 15 proceeding papers and has presented 63 papers at international and national scientific conferences. She has participated as a principal investigator in more than 15 national research projects, over the last 20 years. She is a member of the Association of Greek Chemists and of the International Society of Environmental Epidemiology (ISEE) since 2022.
