Summary of Curriculum Vitae

Born in Fotino Ioannina, Greece, in 1950. High School Diploma from Northern High School, Detroit, Mich., 1969. Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from Wayne State University, Detroit, Mich. (1969-1973) and Bachelor of Science in Biology in 1974 from the same University. “Phychion Iatrikis” from Aristotle University Medical School, Thessaloniki, Greece, in 1979. Rural service obligation served in the Orthopedics Clinic of the General Hospital of “St. Andreas” Patras, Greece (1980-1981).Scientific and Research associate (1981-1987) in the Dept. of Microbiology, University of Patras Medical School. Specialty in Microbiology (Biopathology) after Greek Board Exams in 1984. PhD thesis was defended in 1987 and was found “excellent” from the University of Patras Medical School. Lecturer of the Dept. of Microbiology (1987-1992). Intramural Research Training Award Fellowship (1989-1990) and Research Associate (1990-1991), Kidney Disease Section, NIDDK, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Md, USA. Assistant Professor of Microbiology 1992, Associate in 1997. Certificate of specialty in Clinical Microbiology in 1997 from the Ministry of Health. Full Professor of Microbiology, 2002. Director of Heamatology Laboratory in the University General Hospital of Patras (UGHP) from 2002-2007. Head of Microbiology Dept. University of Patras Medical School and Director of Microbiology Laboratory at UGHP from 2007 till now. “Doctor Honoris Causa” of “Iuliu Hatieganu”, University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Cluj-Napoca, Romania, from 2008. Significant scientific, teaching, clinical, research and editorial work in the field of Microbiology – Immunology with extensive number of publications in national and international research journals as well as significant number of participations and awards in national and international conferences.
